Abstract Zn–Mg-coatings are an innovation for continuous hot dip galvanizing which can be produced on existing continuous galvanizing lines. Due to their high corrosion resistance it is possible to reduce the coating thickness while having the same corrosion protection. Therefore the new coatings give an excellent contribution to save resources. The new flat steel product exhibits especially a higher corrosion resistance at cut edges and is also advisable to use as a substrate for organic coil coating.
