Abstract High demands of modern drive systems result from their substantial influence on the performance of metallurgical installations. Against this background, the article at hand introduces a computer-based approach for the project design and optimization of hydraulic drive systems. With this method, the development effort of new systems can be highly reduced and existing installations can be improved. Still, the cooperation between plant engineers and drive and control specialists is a must at an early stage.
