Abstract | Studies on the effect of radioactive elements, particularly radionuclides Th-232 and U-238 in the environment and people living near radioactive tailings is an important issue. The Republic of Tajikistan during the Soviet Union was one of the main suppliers of raw uranium for nuclear strategic industry of the USSR. Currently in northern Tajikistan in the cities Taboshar, Gafurov, Chkalovsk and the village Adrasman stockpiled 54.8 million tons of low-level uranium waste with total activity of 6240 Ku, a total area of 182 hectares. Of the ten existing tailings eight closed and two open. The authors conducted a study on the content of radionuclides Th-232 and U-238 in aerosols and their distribution outside of tailings "Digmay" and Taboshar. To determine the qualitative and quantitative composition of Th-232 and U-238, an experiment was conducted to capture particulate filters of varying subtlety. Trace amounts of radionuclides in the study area are from 0.141 to 0.483 ng/m3 for Th-232 and from 0.184 to 1.556 ng/m3 for U-238. The results obtained for the "paradigm", a farm in the north-west, on the southern outskirts of the village Gozien and Taboshar by U-238 is several times lower than the accepted norms in the EU. It can be concluded that the radionuclide content of U-238 and Th-232 in aerosol components do not affect the health of people living near the "Digmay" and Taboshar. |
