On the 19^th of July 2011, the Council of the European Union (EU) approved a directive which sets out the general rules and requirements for the treatment with the irradiated nuclear fuel and radioactive wastes (INF and RW). Before approving, it went through the negotiations and discussions for nearly nine months, in various EU bureaucratic structures. The directive was the first ever regional document about the nuclear industry wastes.
