The paper includes the review of up-to-date tube rolling technologies based on the materials of passed International conference “Tubes 2011” in Chelyabinsk. It is noted that continuously cast billets are used the more and more widely in production of seamless tubes. Technological parameters of rolling mill setting are compared for the tubes manufactured at Elektrostal works of heavy machinery, Pervouralsky novotrubny works, Volzhsky, Sinarsky and Nikopol tube works and Moscow power engineering institute. In order to solve the problems, connected with piercing of continuously cast billets, the new roll pass designs and new schedules of setting of piercing mills are developed. Regarding the technological stage of shell elongation, it is concluded that continuous elongation mills are now the main production facilities. Improvement of rolling technology is directed mainly on rise of precision of tube wall thickness. For this purpose, roll pass design is improving, speed conditions are correcting and rolling mills of new design with 3-roll stands are using. Frequency distribution of wall thickness of tubes rolled and lowered, nominal and increased level of intra-stand extending forces is displayed. Especial attention is paid to increase of wear resistance of plugs and mandrels. The results of computer-aided simulation of cooling liquid flow kinematics and temperature field for piercing plugs are given.
