The raw materials base for the ferrous metallurgy enterprises is formed on 24 iron ore plants, among them are: Lebedinsky, Stoylensky and Mikhailovsky ore dressing and processing enterprises, "KMAruda" JSC, Yakovlevsky mine and Belgorod mining company. All these enterprises produce more than 50% of commercial iron ore from its total output. Five of these enterprises are situated in Belgorod region and one (Mikhailovsky ore dressing and processing enterprise) is situated in Kursk region.

An important component of the fulfillment of development tasks of mining and metallurgical complex is its supply with the personnel, which will be well informed in both Russian and foreign innovation technologies and its implementation equipment.

In 2005, the governing body of Belgorod region decided to organize the training of mining engineers in Belgorod State University (BelSU). Nowadays, BelSU has the status of Belgorod State National Research University, which includes the Scientific Center of Applied Geology and Geotechnics, along with the Chair of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology (BelSU) and the base chair in "VIOGEM" JSC. The chairs carry out the training and graduating of mining engineers of the speciality "Applied geology", as well as the post-graduate education and retraining of mining industry and engineering survey geologists on the extension courses.

This article presents the methodology of mining specialists training on the chair of Belgorod State National Research University and the base chair of "VIOGEM" JSC.
