Asen Metal Endüstri Ürünleri Sanayi Ticaret Ltd. Şti. from Istanbul, Turkey, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of an 18-MN short-stroke front-loading extrusion press. It will be the first machine of this type to be built at SMS Meer Engineering China (SMEC). Machines and plants can now be built and serviced with modern equipment at the production workshop in Shanghai that was extended in March 2014.
Asen Metal can produce up to 8,000 tons of aluminum structural profiles per year on the new machine. Thanks to an optimized hydraulic system, the press is more energy-efficient than other technologies and is characterized by lower maintenance costs compared with the predecessor model. The new linear guides for the container and the stem crosshead, for example, operate with significantly less mechanical wear.
The short-stroke front-loading extrusion press extrudes aluminum billets with a press force of 18 MN and a high specific pressure of 660 N/mm2. It operates with extremely short non-productive times. The billet length has been optimized for a maximum length of 1,000 millimeters and a diameter of seven inch.
Asen Metal will commission the new machine in December 2014.
