Jilin Liyuan grants SMS group FAC for 36 MN and 160 MN extrusion presses

Jilin Liyuan Aluminium Company in Liaoyuan, Jilin Province in China, has granted the SMS group the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for a 36 MN direct/indirect tube extrusion press and a 160 MN front-loading extrusion press just shortly after commissioning. The 160 MN press is the largest extrusion press built by SMS to date.

The 160 MN press will be used in particular for the extrusion of large profiles of medium hard aluminum alloys that are used for new high-speed trains and other rail-bound vehicles. The benefits: Thanks to the large profiles, less welding work is necessary during wagon construction, stability is increased whilst reducing the weight. The front-loading press processes billets with a diameter of 720 millimeters, a length of 2,500 millimeters and a weight of 2,750 kg. They are used for the production of profiles with widths of up to 800 millimeters and lengths of up to 35 meters.

The SMS group had already supplied a 45 MN direct/indirect tube press to Jilin Liyuan in 2011. Wang Min, owner of Jilin Liyuan says: “We have had very good experience with the availability, productivity and precision of the tube press supplied by the SMS group in 2011. With the second new press ̶ the 36 MN direct/indirect tube press ̶ Jilin Liyuan is expanding its product spectrum in the field of seamless tubes. The new press allows the processing of billets high-strength aluminium alloys weighing 300 kg with a diameter of 322 millimeters and a length of 1,350 millimeters. They are used to produce special tubes for applications in power stations and in oil and gas exploration, as well as profiles for the electronics and automotive industry. The SMS press is also characterized by its high flexibility. In direct extrusion mode, Jilin Liyuan can also produce normal profiles.

With the two new presses, Jilin Liyuan as one of the leading producers of extruded aluminium profiles and tubes in China, is expanding its product portfolio particularly in the high-grade and profitable special segments, and thus increasing its competitiveness. Project manager Klaus Fußbroich from the SMS group: “The cooperation with the customer was very harmonious and marked by close partnership.
