Abstract

Any technological route of steel production requires ironbearing raw materials and power resources; all charge materials should met strict requirements on quality in order to provide efficient production. The seminar “Raw materials and energy as the base for effective metallurgical process” was devoted to the problems of deterioration of quality of raw materials as a serious problem of blast furnace practice, as well as to alternativa processes of irnmaking. Other actual problems - influence of alloying elements on steelmaking, supply of alimina-bearing raw materials for refractories production were discussed. It was noted that iron scrap for recycling in electric arc furnace or as a cooling agent in basic oxygen converter is secondary raw material of increased interest for producers. Power management systems allow to rise power engineering efficiency during usage of energy carriers as well as duiring creating of technological power in steelmaking. The new challenges for conventional blast furnace technological route are observed and direct reduction processes and reduction melting are examined in details. Variations allowing to monitor quickly and effectively power consumption in order to inform personnel timely about respecive technological parameters can be also considered are key factors. At present time, up-to-date control systems allow to prepare and summarize power consumption data very easily and exactly, using optical on-line method; these data are then converted in managing or distribution function, what makes possible to provide motivation of personnel and make aimed solutions on optimization of power consumption.
