Abstract

As Germany’s biggest steel company ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe is focused on the highgrowth premium flat carbon steel segment. Our range of flat products covers hot-rolled steel, sheet, coated products and heavy plate in a broad spectrum of grades. Down the vertical value chain our subsidiaries offer additional processing and finishing capabilities, including specialized flat steel products such as tinplate, medium-wide strip and electrical steel. In recent years we have systematically focused our portfolio on high value-added products. In the energy sector, our grain-oriented electrical steel is used as a core material in transformers. This is the product of joint research by ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG and ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel. Using this soft magnetic steel grade, transformers achieve efficiency levels of more than 99%. Our products are therefore playing an important role in implementing the energy transition in Germany. The examples above show that innovations and growth begin with steel. Steel is a material for the future and holds huge importance for the efficiency and competitiveness of industry in Germany and Europe. The numerous innovations developed by ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe and the material’s close links with other sectors of industry contribute to the success of the auto, electrical and engineering industries in particular but many other sectors as well. With its innovative capabilities, steel is an important engine for the economy and will remain so in the future.
