Abstract

The purpose of the work – study and development of new technologies and means of hydrometallurgical and mining-and-processing tailings storage facilities surface binding stabilization on the basis of tailings binding in bulk by lime, chemical agents, soil mixtures in form of pellets, by specially prepared compound and through accelerated biological recultivation of abandoned tailings storage facilities. In the course of studies and field tests, hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile, polyacrylamide and lignosulfonate did not corroborate their effectiveness as binders. It is recommended to provide binding stabilization of dusting surfaces by means of soil mixtures in form of pellets, composed of clay, straw (cane), sawdust, binding additive compounds (hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile, lignosulfonates) and water with the following mixing ratio of ingredients, mass %: clay — 68–75; crushed straw, cane or sawdust — 3–8; lignosulfonates or hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile — 0.3–1; plant seeds, water — the rest. Consumption of pellets — 8–10 kg per 1 m2. In binding stabilization of dusting surfaces by means of soil mixtures in the form of clay binder solution with the added fertilizers, grass seeds, hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile and mulching materials (clay, ashes from combined heat and power plants, sawdust), the optimal consumption amounts to 12–15 liter per 1 m2. It was experimentally proved that belvedere plant (Kochia scoparia) is best suited for accelerated landscaping of recultivated tailings storage facilities (by means of a clay and black humus earth) under the conditions of Krivoy Rog Basin (Ukraine). This plant effectively binds tailings storage facilities surface with its roots and stalks in 1.5–2 months, forming a large plant biomass, a continuous effective cover, preventing whirling-up of silicosis-causing injurious dust.
