This paper looks at the possibility to enhance the processability and performance of metal coatings made of water-based single-component paint materials (such as primer and enamel) by introducing diamond nanoparticles. The paint materials were modified with 0.005–0.100%(wt.) nanosized additives. The authors looked at the drying time and physical and mechanical properties of single-layer coatings made of modified paints (such as hardness, impact strength, adhesion) and installed on steel substrates. They also analyzed the protective properties (such as resistance to exposure to water, 3% NaCl solution, industrial oil, diesel) of coatings made of modified primer and enamel with enhanced mechanical properties. It was found that the introduction of diamond nanoparticles significantly shortens the cure time of primer and enamel (water-dispersed acrylic copolymers, pigments, fillers, functional additives, water) installed on ‘08кп’ grade steel. Nanomodified primer and enamel form protective coatings with enhanced adhesion, impact strength, hardness, resistance to water and NaCl solution.
