The standard method of ore grindability estimation in rod and ball mills requires considerable time and strict compliance with certain conditions, as mill size, ball load, etc. The article considers various techniques of ore grindability estimation with application of non-standard methods, which speed up or approximate Bond Work Index estimation. These techniques are based on decreasing the number of grindability determination tests, as in Magdalinovich method, from 5 to 2; calibration of non-standard mills when standard Bond mill may not be used, when Bond Work Index of ore sample is known (Bery and Bruce method); they also include simulation and mathematical statistics method with application of software packages when disintegration distribution Bij and disintegration rate Sij functions (Kapur method), as well as ore mechanical strength indices (Every method, etc.), are known in advance; statistical correlation method of Bond Work Index estimation with application of Rozin—Rammler and Godin—Schumann particle-size distribution parameters relationship (Chakrabarti method); approximation through ultimate breaking strength measurement using tension and ultimate compression strength test — the presented results of this test show a good correlltion between Bond Work Index, ultimate breaking strength and non-axial ultimate compression strength (Briggs method). Availability of alternative methods permits to considerably increase possibilities of researchers in ore grindability estimation, especially when lacking specialized laboratories, equipped with standard laboratory equipment required for relevant studies. Data, acquired by means of alternative methods, show good repeatability with the standard method results, and in certain cases permit to obtain more precise results.
